Invoice & trade finance

Get paid on your invoices sooner. Not in 60 days.

You did the work and sent the invoice. Your customer pays in 30, 60 or 90 days. Your wages and suppliers want cash now. Invoice finance releases part of the money tied up in unpaid invoices.

How it works

You invoice your customer as normal. The lender advances you part of the invoice value up front. Some lenders advance up to about 90% of an eligible invoice. When your customer pays, the lender takes its fees and passes on the rest.

You can choose selective facilities, where you pick which invoices to finance, or whole-of-ledger facilities. Some are confidential, so your customers aren't told. Some hand collections to the financier, and some leave them with you. That depends on the lender.

We'll tell you if invoice finance fits.

How it works

Three steps.

1

Tell us who owes you

We look at your customers, terms and volumes.

2

We match you to a facility

Selective, whole-of-ledger, disclosed or confidential. We explain each option and the total cost.

3

You invoice and get paid sooner

Once the facility is set up, you draw against invoices as you raise them.

Who it suits

  • You invoice other businesses or government on payment terms.
  • You're a subcontractor, or in transport, labour hire, wholesale, manufacturing or commercial services.
  • Your customers pay reliably, just slowly.
  • You're growing and cash is tied up in work already done.

When it's not the answer

  • You sell to the public and get paid on the spot.
  • Invoices are disputed, or customers are slow for reasons other than their payment terms.

What to bring

  • A debtors list: who owes you, how much and how old
  • Sample invoices and your payment terms
  • Recent BAS or financials
  • ID for the directors

It costs more than a bank loan.

Fees and a discount charge apply. It works best as a cash flow tool for growth or gaps, not a permanent fix. We show you the total cost first.

Trade finance

Need to pay your supplier first?

Invoice finance and trade finance get confused constantly. Invoice finance advances you cash once the work is done and you're waiting to be paid. Trade finance pays your supplier before you've got the goods or the job has started. Plenty of businesses use both at different points in the same job.

Trade finance

You need to pay the supplier before you've been paid by the customer. It covers the gap between paying for stock or materials and getting paid. You're approved for a limit, the lender pays your supplier directly, you deliver or sell, then repay once your customer pays. Common with importers and businesses buying ahead of a busy season.

Who it suits

  • You buy stock or materials well before your customer pays you, domestically or internationally.
  • A big order would tie up cash you need for wages, rent and everything else.

Sometimes. Some lenders will look at it, depending on the file and how the debt is being managed.

How fast do I get the money?

The lender sets the timeframe. We tell you what it is before you sign.

What's the difference between invoice finance and trade finance?

Invoice finance releases cash against invoices you've already raised. Trade finance pays your supplier so you can buy stock or materials before your customer pays you. Some businesses use both.
